Planet Zoo 2's aviaries house the series' first flying animals. The official description is specific about the build: barriers, support poles and dynamic mesh covers, assembled into a fully customisable structure where birds move freely and safely both on the ground and in the sky.

The birds, 12 species in class Aves
| Species | Scientific name | IUCN status |
|---|---|---|
| Long-Tailed Parakeet | Belocercus longicaudus | Vulnerable |
| Common Ostrich | Struthio camelus | Least concern |
| White-Backed Vulture | Gyps africanus | Critically endangered |
| Eurasian Bittern | Botaurus stellaris | Least concern |
| Shoebill | Balaeniceps rex | Vulnerable |
| Great Hornbill | Buceros bicornis | Vulnerable |
| White-Tailed Sea-Eagle | Haliaeetus albicilla | Least concern |
| Long-Eared Owl | Asio otus | Least concern |
| Toco Toucan | Ramphastos toco | Least concern |
| African Penguin | Spheniscus demersus | Critically endangered |
| Golden Eagle (Deluxe) | Aquila chrysaetos | Least concern |
| Secretarybird | Sagittarius serpentarius | Endangered |
Two things about that table are worth saying plainly. The Golden Eagle carries Zoopedia's Deluxe tag, so it arrives with the Deluxe Edition rather than the base game. And being class Aves does not automatically mean flying habitat: the Common Ostrich and the African Penguin are flightless in real life, and Frontier has not said which of these twelve use aviaries and which use standard habitats. The full animal roster carries the same list by class.

Frontier's own feature copy does name two of them as aviary residents, the Toco Toucan and the Secretarybird, and the Long-Tailed Parakeet is the latest species Zoopedia flags as newly revealed, matching the October 1 spotlight video on the trailers page.
How aviaries work, as far as official copy goes
- Barriers form the walls, the same piece-by-piece barrier system the series uses for land habitats
- Support poles hold the structure up, which is new for this game
- Dynamic mesh covers close the top so flying birds stay in, and the word dynamic implies the mesh follows your structure rather than snapping to fixed shapes
Preview accounts from the official community events describe building a custom aviary from scratch and placing new enrichment for flying birds, including swings and feeding perches. Those accounts match the official feature copy but remain community reports until Frontier documents the systems.
What we do not know yet
- Whether mesh panels have size, shape or height limits
- How flight is simulated, beyond the official line about ground and sky behaviours
- Whether mixed enclosures, birds over land animals, are possible
- Aviary cost, guest viewing mechanics and keeper access
FAQ
Can birds fly freely in Planet Zoo 2?
That is the design promise in the official copy: birds glide around their enclosures, observed on the ground and in the sky. The exact flight simulation has not been detailed.
Do aviaries need a roof?
The official description includes dynamic mesh covers as one of the three building parts, so a covered structure is the stated design.
Which birds are listed?
The twelve species in class Aves above, read from Frontier's Zoopedia with scientific names and IUCN statuses. The Golden Eagle is the one tagged Deluxe.
